FOND DU LAC - After already deciding to move hundreds of manufacturing jobs from Fond du Lac to Stillwater, Oklahoma, Mercury Marine says it could soon make a decision that could impact nearly the same amount of people in its corporate divisions.
TODAY'S TMJ4 HD's Tom Murray reports that Mercury may make a decision on whether its corporate headquarters will call Fond du Lac or Stillwater home as early as this week.
That decision could impact around 800 executive, management, research and support jobs.
Union members rejected requested concessions to Mercury Marine's current labor contract, including a pay freeze and fewer benefits.
Mercury Marine says the union failed to submit a second vote on the concessions by the deadline of midnight on Saturday night. The union has since called off that second vote.
The company says it has begun the process of moving 850 manufacturing jobs from Fond du Lac to its Stillwater, OK facility.
"We remain hopeful that something will work out, that this will have happy ending for the union, a happy ending for the company and certainly for the city," said Tom Herre, Fond du Lac City Manager.
Government officials met with Mercury Marine management, and the company insisted on an incentive proposal to keep the corporate headquarters here.
